As far back as the early 1970's there was an involvement in the World of Dogs with the focus at that time being Long Haired Chihuahuas. However the death of our oldest girl, Suzi's Adored 17 Year old 'Peanuts' who she lost in 1990...     Kavishi Shar-Pei was created after our re-discovery of the Shar-Pei which although they interested Suzi in earlier years had never been the subject of any breeding by us. The dedicated work done by breeders to improve the breed since the early 1980's and the Superb temperaments and other attributes of the Shar-Pei made a great impression on us... Thus Kavishi Shar-Pei was created with the hope that we would be able to participate in the breed improvement of this wonderful dog, and the selfish wish to enjoy for ourselves, the company of such wonderful creatures. Our initial approach in our program was to research as much information as possible on the breed in general, all past and present breeders, their past pedigrees, breeding programs and any health problems encountered by them. Most of the breeders contacted were extremely helpful and co-operative and have long since become good friends. In 1998 we imported Two Shar-Pei Girls from China, to compliment our existing American Type Pei's and enhance the genetic pool available to us in our breeding program. A mating was arranged by us prior to departure from China and resulted in the First 100% Chinese Litter to be born in the UK. All puppies were very healthy, quick developers with the correct Horse coats, Beautiful Almond Shaped eyes. All of our Full Chinese Line have kept exceptionally good health, and are extremely agile, with our oldest imported girl now almost 12 years old, she is very bright, healthy and playful her daughters and her son have inherited the same wonderful temperaments as their mum. Our Kavishi family also includes Shar-Pei with Established American, German and British Bloodlines. We commenced with a DNA ID program in 1997 covering all of our Shar-pei which authenticates the parentage of our Kavishi bred Shar-Pei, which we are sure will be popular with breeders and pet owners alike. We hope that we will be able to make a contribution to the breed which will benefit not only our own program but that of other dedicated Shar-Pei breeders and mostly the Shar-Pei themselves.
